What Mumble sees, what it keeps, and what it never touches — plainly.
Mumble only hears you while you hold the talk key. Let go and the microphone is off — it is never listening in the background.
It only looks at your screen the moment you ask it to. No passive capture, no keylogging, no clipboard watching, no reading your files. When you ask, it takes a single screenshot to answer, and that’s it.
Mumble sits quietly in your menu bar so it’s ready the instant you hold the key — but it isn’t listening or watching until you do.
Screenshots are never stored. One is captured to answer your question, used, and dropped.
Dictated text goes straight where your cursor is — we don’t keep it, unless you explicitly opt in to help improve transcription (off by default, reversible in Settings).
We keep your account (your email) and your conversations and notes, so you can pick up where you left off. That’s it.
Dictation runs entirely on your Mac. When you hold the key to dictate, your speech is turned into text by a model that lives on your own device — that voice never leaves your Mac, and we never receive it.
The assistant features do use the cloud: when you talk with the assistant, ask about your screen, or send an agent, that content — your question or spoken request, and a single screenshot if one is needed — passes securely to trusted AI providers, OpenAI and Anthropic, so they can respond. Your account and settings run on Supabase, payments on Stripe, and product analytics on PostHog. We pass content through, and we never sell it.
Your voice, your screen and your prompts are never used to train AI models — not ours, and not our providers’. Their terms don’t allow it, and we don’t ask them to.
We use product analytics (PostHog), tied to your account, to see which features get used and to fix what breaks. It never touches your screenshots, prompts or screen content, we never sell it — and you can switch it off any time in Settings.
Turn analytics off in Settings. Revoke any macOS permission — microphone, screen, accessibility — in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Ask us to delete your account and we remove your personal data within 14 days.
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS, and your sign-in token is stored securely in the macOS Keychain.
We’re a young product. We’re not SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified yet — what we can do is tell you exactly what we do, plainly. That’s this page. If anything here isn’t clear, email hi@joinmumble.com and a real person will answer.
